The Native Hawaiian Health Scholarship Program has moved to a new location at 894 Queen St (google maps link).  We apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused, but rest assured we are still here and are still accepting applicants for the 2010-2011 scholarship year.

Scholars, visitors, and applicants must park at our garage at 860 Halekauwila St.  We will validate.

Mahalo for your interest in the Native Hawaiian Health Scholarship Program! Our original application start date has been delayed until further notice. We apologize to applicants for the inconvenience. We are working to get the application process started as soon as possible, please check back weekly for updates. The Native Hawaiian Health Scholarship Program provides funding to Native Hawaiians who are pursuing the following degrees as full time students enrolled at accredited universities:

  • Clinical Psychology (PhD & PsyD)
  • Dentistry (DMD & DDS)
  • Physician (MD & DO, with select specialties)
  • Masters In Public Health (MPH)
  • Nurse Midwife
  • Nursing (ADN, BSN, MSN, NP)
  • Physicians Assistant
  • Pharmacist
  • Nutritionist
  • Social Work (MSW)
  • Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT)
  • Opthamology
  • Optometry

Aloha.  All eligible applicants who submitted the required documents by 4/24/09 have been contacted by the NHHSP.  If you have been contacted, you must do the following:

  1. READ the Applicant Information Bulletin.  All applicants must download and read the 2009-2010 Applicant Information Bulletin (AIB).  The AIB is a Federal guideline detailing your responsibilities. You can download it here.
  2. SUBMIT the Supplemental Documents Packet.  This packet is available for download now.  You must submit a completed supplemental documents packet postmarked no later than: June 5th, 2009.
  3. COMPLETE an interview.  The NHHSP will contact you to schedule a one hour interview.

Our deadline for the 2009-2010 application ended April 24th, 2009 at 5 PM HST.  Your submitted documents per the Native Hawaiian Health Scholarship Program Checklist should have included the requested items:

  • Submission of Online Application
  • Birth Certificate
  • 1-Page Resume
  • Official Transcripts
  • Other Documents (If Applicable)

All walk-in documents were due in the Native Hawaiian Health Scholarship Program office on April 24, 2009 by 5:00 p.m. HST. Documents postmarked after the April 24, 2009 deadline will not be considered.  The Native Hawaiian Health Scholarship Program will be contacting all eligible applicants to schedule an interview.  Interviews will begin May 19th and end no later than June 5th, 2009.

While the AIB is subject to change from year to year, 90% of the information it contains should remain accurate.

The AIB is every aspect of the scholarship program in a nutshell, and we consider it a must-read for potential applicants to the scholarship program.

…for the Federal government to approve our supplemental documents packet, we encourage ALL scholars who are applying for the scholarship this year to gather the following documents:

A certified copy of your birth certificate (showing Native Hawaiian ancestry).  If you were born in the state of Hawaii you can order one from the Department of Health.

A copy of your transcripts up to the current academic year.

A one-page resume (no personal statements please).

These three documents are time-consuming to gather so we recommend that applicants get started on theirs as soon as they can!

Our application process involves three steps. To be eligible for the scholarship, you MUST:

  1. Fill out the online application form (click here to go to the online application form). UNAVAILABLE AS OF 4′24′09 DEADLINE!
  2. Download, print, fill out, and turn in the Supplemental Documents Packet before the April 24th, 2009 deadline. (Packet to be available soon).
  3. Undergo an interview (we will contact you to schedule the interview).
